• Congratulations! to GM Alex Moiseyev of Dublin, Ohio who won the tournament, and has been the World 3-Move Checker Champion since 2002.
  

• Congratulations! to IM Tim Laverty of Graham, as the new 2010 NC State Checker Champion, making his 10th State Championship Title. He won his last State Title in 2003.
  

• Congratulations! to Joe McClellan of Winston-Salem, who won the 2010 NC State Majors Checker Championship Title.
  

• GM stands for Grand Master, IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given to distinguish players by WCDF.
  

• Congratulations! to Bobby Gerringer who isn't new to checkers, but this was his first tournament.  He is simpleman at Yahoo checkers.
  

• Congratulations! to Mel Tungate who is an Executive with Hitachi Data Systems Corporation.  He read our announcement in the newspaper, checked out the website, and decided to play our tournament since it was close to his Durham office.  He makes this business trip out of Hitachi Headquarters in Santa Clara frequently.  Maybe he will play again, assuming we have something that fits into his schedule. 
  

• We had 24 players from 8 states, the World Champion, 2 past National Champs, 3 past State & District Champions, and a National Youth Champ participating in this tournament.

• Bill McClintock, NCCA Treasurer, reported on the status of our trust fund at our Friday morning business meeting.  Edward Jones:  $12,522.28 + RCB Dain Rauscher: $15,344.52 making a total of $27,866.80 as of 3/30/2010 excluding the prize fund withdrawal of $1,000.00.

• Bill also announced these deceased players: Charlie Lowrance of Hendersonville,  NC  5/31/1996  and Charles Stansel of Lumberton, NC   8/05/2009.

• We want to thank and recognize the donations we received:  Larry Keen contributed $100.00, Ben Jones $40.00, anonymous $25, Ted Williamson $20.00.

• This plus the $325 from entry fees totaling $510.00 plus the $1,000 from our trust fund, made a $1,510.00 total cash prize.

• Vic Habgood donated his winning of $95.00, Mel Tungate donated his $20.00, and James Martin donated his $20.00 to NCCA.

• Locals like Cecil Stackhouse, the 85 year old retired manager of Carolina Tire Company of Siler City which was later sold back to Goodyear stopped by to see us.  Both he and Ricky Holt dropped in, but they elected not to play, just wanted to visit and watch.  Incidentally, Stackhouse appears to be a good player by his ability to run up a game from a Mike Ross game and demonstrated a missed win after the match was over, and Mike agreed. 

• Our checker cheerleaders included: Gayle Smith, Ernestine Pickard, Carol Williamson, Glenda Mays, Betsy Jones, Ruth Holder, and Shirley Lerum.

• Don Beane - Sports - Chatham News came by Saturday noon with photographer who said they were going to do an article in The Chatham News & Chatham Record.
  

• Refreshments: coffee, cold drinks, water, fruit, chip & hot dip, snacks, etc. were available throughout the tournament.
  

• Most of the players experienced a good dinner at Bestfood Cafeteria and the yummy, lip-smacking Johnson's Siler City old fashion hamburger.
  

• A Delightful Tournament & Wonderful Fellowship was had by all who attended, with all the tough competition you would ever want!
